VOMO High End Multimedia Music Box

This little boom box uses Vibration Technology to deliver very high quality sounds. A 3.5mm plug enables you to connect any cell phone, tablet, iPhone, iPad or other MP3 players to it. Fill your Micro SD card with music too, there’s a slot for your card! This unit is also a FM receiver.

By placing this VOMO on any solid surface, you turn that surface into a speaker. Use your glass table, coffee table or any other solid surface to listen to your favorite music with awesome sound.

The surface you chose will become your speaker. The choice you make for your playing surface will determine the clarity of your music. We have found that glass surfaces vibrate with the greatest range and best quality.

When you place your VOMO on your solid surface your music is crisp and clear. If you pick it up, the volume significantly drops.

The VOMO measures 9cm wide by 5cm high. Comes complete with an audio cable, charging cable and IR Remote Control. The lithium battery included with this unit charges from any USB port, in any computer!

One of the benefits of being in the technology business is that when new gadgets come along, we get to try them out! I’m very excited about this sound advancement and was very surprised at the quality of the tunes it’s playing. This unit really needs to be heard in order to understand its full potential. These are going to sell like hotcakes!

When the idea of being more involved in the social media aspect of the Internet for my business, I was very skeptical. What could Twitter and a Facebook page do for me, worldwide?

I felt it was reaching too large an audience, when my goal was to get people into my store in Orillia and be their repair or sales store! The Internet is a huge place, here are the most current World Internet Usage Statistics News and World Population Stats http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm. I’m in a population of about 30,000! I did not realize there were so many hand held devices in use and active computer and social media users in my area.

Nonetheless I dove into Twitter with both feet! I tweeted, reminding people to back up their important data, how easy it was to use back up hard drives, virus and malware scanning, updating windows, all sorts of tidbits of information, given freely. I was pleased that users were asking me questions and I could assist with their queries. As of the date of this article, I have had 6 paying customers from Twitter in my store and a few others that didn’t result in a sale but it was great to meet them in person regardless. I have also received 2 on site service jobs from Twitter.

I use the Search feature to find everyone who has typed in “my hard drive”, they usually have a question or problem – I offer to assist them. It feels good just to be there and help out, for free!

Now, here’s an ever better side of social media that surprised me.

I had been tweeting with several users for quite some time now, getting to know more about a few, friendships developing. I posted that I was getting ready for the long weekend and a great BBQ was ahead!

I didn’t expect this, but a user I got to know @blackjkspollock Tweets back – “can I come”? Well, to be honest I didn’t really think this would pan out because, well, who’s going to travel 1400kms to attend my backyard BBQ?

About a month previous to this, I had won a Twitter Give Away he was doing. I had won a creative sketch that he had made on a recycled product. I liked actually receiving something real from this huge world of on line.

To my surprise he emailed me with all the arrangements made that he would like to come to the BBQ and would be here Friday night! Now of course, I’ve got to explain this to my boyfriend @GregTheMechanic.

Keep in mind that we both got our business’s into Social Media at the same time. We did this together! I explained how it all came up by a tweet that I made. He laughed and said something like “We’ll have a social party”. Neither of us realized just how powerful and full of potential Twitter could be.

I started adding @GregTheMechanic into the tweets with @blackjkspollock the following day and a plan was confirmed.

We also included locals Robert @OrilliaBusiness and @SimcoeArtists to this event being that @blackjkspollock is an artist looking to broaden his network reach. Simcoe Artists is a community based hub for our local artists to display their works.

We really enjoyed it and bringing together some local and not so local Twitter users together for an off line meeting. We showed him how to have a bonfire and live in a rural area and have fun the Canadian way! Not to mention some very delicious food!

He left us with some lovely sketches he created while he was here. During his stay with us we introduced @blackjkspollock to our favorite wine, @WolfBlassWines – Red Label, Yellow Label, all of them!

When he returned to Florida, he was unable to locate these wines in his local stores. While @blackjkspollock was asking @OrilliaBusiness on twitter, where he could get some of this wine in Florida, @WolfBlassWines pops into the twitter conversation and advises that they will look into where @blackjkspollock can obtain it. A couple days later he is told of where he could go to get it.

Customer satisfaction! A brand new customer for @WolfBlassWines with serious twitter influence, over and over.

I don’t know exactly what social media has to offer me or what it will bring me, but so far I’m having fun with it! Cheers!

I couldn’t help notice the ring of dust around the power buttons and tray areas of the DVD drives. I knew dust was going to be an issue! When I opened the case, a few dust bunnies fell out!

The heat sink on the CPU (processor) is coated in a layer of dust.

The fins of the fans are bogged down.

The hard drive enclosure and wires are coated with dust.

The power supply is not ventilating well either.

As you can see this machine hasn’t had an internal cleaning in a very long time. Most people don’t consider their computer is breathing in all this dust and the consequences. Pets are a contributor to the accumulation too. Cat and dog hair are sucked inside by the computer’s fans along with the dust. If you have a pet, you should have your computer cleaned more often.

Computer fans are spinning to keep your computer cool. When they accumulate all this dust, the task of cooling becomes an issue. This customer was experiencing their computer randomly shutting down. It can be caused by either a hardware failure, software or environmental failure, such as: a bad stick of RAM, failing hard drive, bad power supply or a virus. In this case it was just dust!

By having your computer regularly cleaned internally you can prolong the life of your machine. Your components will not experience the damage of over heating.

After taking the compressor to this machine and cleaning out all the dust bunnies, it looks new inside again. More importantly it is running with a more acceptable processing temperature and is no longer shutting down.

Taking your computer into a shop on a regular basis can save you time and money in the long run.

If you are a “do it yourself” type of person, remove your computer case and blow that dust out. If you have a compressor in the garage, use your lowest setting to blow out the fans and grills. You can purchase a canned air product such as Dust Off or any air duster, they do an effective job. It’s best to take your computer outside to clean it out. Believe me, it will get messy!

If you are unable to take it outside I would hold the vacuum about four inches (absolutely no closer to the main board) above the open side of the case lying on it’s side and use canned air to blow the dust up to be sucked away by the vacuum cleaner. I would advise that you never vacuum a computer main board itself as you may vacuum off an important jumper that you wouldn’t even know existed. These jumpers are very small and a very integral part of your computers’ functionality. A lot of static is also created by the vacuum.

If you’re not the “do it yourself” type of person, just have your local computer shop clean it out for you.

They both say it was working fine the other day, they could connect to the Internet, get their email and now they can’t connect at all. Some laptops have their antenna switch at the very front of the unit and some have keyboard keystrokes to disable and enable the antenna. Solution: The antenna off switch is at the front of these laptops and was accidently switched off. It was an easy fix that I couldn’t bring myself to charge for – 1 minute fix! So if you’re having a similar issue, check that your antenna is ON!

In the past month I’ve had a couple of Dell laptops in the shop for service. One of them needed to have Microsoft Windows 7 reinstalled. I was horrified when I couldn’t locate the COA (certificate of authenticity). I contacted Dell, who weren’t any help at all. I asked them why there’s no COA on this laptop? They started a service ticket. I went ahead looking through forums only to discover that Dell now puts their COA underneath the battery! Who would have thought to look there? It’s actually brilliant to do this because many laptops come in for service and their COA is worn right off the label. In this case it’s imperative that the customer has their Recovery DVD’s (which they usually don’t). So good job moving the COA, … Read More

Recently in Orillia, there have been a few computers that have fallen victim to a phone scam that has been making it’s way around for a while now. You may receive a phone call from someone saying that your computer or laptop has errors or virus’s. They claim that if you turn your computer on and allow them access (they will walk you through the process), boom they’ve got all your data. After this your computer will not be the same. Trust me that no one will phone you to fix your machine – trust your instict, you’re gut is usually right! When you do get this phone call, tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell everyone you can. Awareness is key.
